Protecting family incomes.

      � business-as-usual approach to building our state� budget is what got us in trouble in the past and created a huge deficit. Working with my colleagues who believe that families should not have to pay for past mistakes, this year we achieved a no-new-taxes spending plan that protects family incomes.�/span>

Providing quality education.

      �hile requiring state government to live within its means, we still provided solid support for K-12 education, including pay increases for teachers in their first seven years on the job, plus we added money to reduce class size. There� more work to be done, but it� a good start.�/span>

Fixing transportation problems

      �his is one of my key goals in the Legislature. Working with other members of the House Transportation Committee, we added significant new dollars to build our transportation infrastructure. I also was successful in adding efficiency reforms to ensure we get maximum results for our tax dollars.�/span>
